Grey Light Productions_
part of Evolve Exchange
Welcome to Grey Light Productions, a company in residence with Evolve/Exchange at the Corn Exchange, Newbury.
Grey Light Productions is a theatre company dedicated to producing and promoting new writing for the stage.
The company was founded in 2006 by director Georgina Guy and producer Ben Monks, following their award-winning work with writer Sam Thomas at the Cameron Mackintosh New Writing Festival. Sam went on to become Grey Light’s Writer in Residence and Grey Light was launched at the King’s Head Theatre with a run of three of Sam’s plays in February / March 2007. Subsequent productions of work by Sam Thomas include Uncle Barry (Blue Elephant Theatre) and LoveSpoons (ScenePool at Camden People’s Theatre).
From 2007 – 2009, Grey Light partnered with the New York Metropolitan Playhouse to develop American Voices, a series exploring new American writing on the London stage. The project formed an unprecedented UK presentation of some of the most vital and as yet unheard voices in new American theatre, presented through workshops, readings and fully staged productions. American Voices involved productions at the Finborough Theatre, Blue Elephant Theatre and Greenwich Playhouse, including the European premiere of Bekah Brunstetter’s Oohrah! at the Finborough.
“Bekah Brunstetter’s play contains dialogue that is utterly convincing in this fine production courtesy of Georgina Guy.” The Times on Oohrah! at the Finborough Theatre
Grey Light is using its time as part of Evolve/Exchange to develop When is a Clock, a new play by American writer Matthew Freeman, whose work Grey Light first produced as part of American Voices. We are especially keen on exploring the role of movement in the production process.
As a company, Grey Light is highly energised by working with writers who have something new to contribute to contemporary theatre. We are always looking to expand the parameters of our work by establishing links and developing new projects with national and international theatre-makers, and always interested to hear from anybody with an interest in the company or the work that we do.
